Epitalon (Epithalon) OverviewEpitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) developed by Russian researcher Vladimir Khavinson based on studies of pineal gland extracts. It is one of the most widely cited peptides in longevity and circadian biology research, with a body of literature focused primarily on telomere biology, circadian regulation, and age-related decline.
Epitalon is reported to activate telomerase — the enzyme responsible for maintaining telomere length at chromosome ends — and to influence pineal gland function and melatonin signalling. Research has also examined its effects on gene expression patterns associated with ageing, though the precise molecular targets remain less well characterised than for many other research peptides.
Most of the Epitalon literature originates from a small number of research groups, primarily in Russia. Independent replication outside these groups is more limited, and large-scale Western clinical trials are not available. It remains a peptide of research interest in longevity contexts.
